The AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) is the first comprehensive legal framework for AI. It follows a risk-based approach: unacceptable risk (banned practices), high (strict obligations), limited (transparency, e.g. flagging a chatbot) and minimal (no specific rules). It entered into force on 1 August 2024 and applies in stages.
